bells rang out their stirring chimes at half past twelve o'clock to-day, owing to the outbreak of fire in 32, Square Street. The fire brigade turned out promptly and in less than half an bour the flames were well under control. Beyond gutting the building and frightening two young women to such an extent that they needlessly jumped out of a win low into the street, no serious damage was done. The origin of the fire is as usual, wrapped in a good deal of mystery, and it is said the tenants of the ground floor, where the fire originated, were absent at the very time when the fiery elements made their appearance. The block of buildings of which the burnt house forms one, is insured with the China Fire Insur- ance Company for $1,800.
