ANOTHER CUT.
We desire to announce to the readers of the Kicker that we have made another cut in the price of bar soap, and for the next two weeks iball offer six bars for a quarter. This is one bar ahead of anything yet offered west of Chi- cago, and, while it brings the profit way down to zero, we expect to reap some little honour from our enterprise. Tae grocery which we run in connection with the Aither is coming rapidly to the front, and it is only a question of a few weeks when it will stand at the head. Our goods are fresh, warranted full weight, and prices lower than anywhere else.
HE WAS CORRECT.
There was considerable astonishment exhibited
by our people the other day when the Governor of Arizona shook hands with us in front of the Post-office, and we have noticed a considerable change in the demeanour of certain people to- wards us ever since. The Governor was cor-
rect. We are no clam shell hidden in the drifte, and be app.cciates the fact. He knows and respects the power of the press. He knows that a great paper the Kicker, having behind it, but under one and the same roof, a grocery, feed store, butcher shop, harness-shop, crockery store, and gent's furnishings, must wield a mighty influence for good. The people in this burg who have been looking upon us as a 1-mule power had beiter jet their eyes open.
CAME TO CRIEF.
The suit of the Widow Gibbs against us for breach of promise, damigea $15,000, came up in court last Friday. The suit was instituted six month ago by the Court House ring, which has sought our downfill ever sir ce'the first issue of this paper That is, they put the widow up to sue us, and have advanced the money as it was needed. When the widow was put on the stand, the testified that on the night of Feb.uary 21st, 1887, we asked her to marry us. She insisted that the date was correct, and that nothing could change her mind about it. We then exhibited the records of the jul to prove that on that day and night we were a prisoner, having, »s some of our readers may remember, departed from the line of virtue and gone on a bender. This exhibit knocked the widow out in the first round, and confounded her supporters, and we don't beli ve they will tackle us again after that fashion. As for the widow, she was only a cat's paw, and we have sent to her house a basket of groceries, a clothes-line, a set of cups and saucers, and a sack of flour to prove that we
have no malice.
"
WE BURY OUR DEAD.
The gander-shanked living skeleton who edits the mortgaged sheet down on Blackjack avenue is out with a tirade against us for shooting Sioux Jim last week. He is serking to get up a public feeling against us, although ha very well knows that we were fully exonerated by the Coroner's jury. Sioux Jim, who was a half-breed, was fighting drunk. He was looking for a victim when he met us on Apache avenue. He drew his knife with the purpose of carving our anatomy to strings, but before he could proceed we pulled our gun and sent six red-hot bullets Into his carcass. He was the third man we have had to kill this fail in defence of our own life, and as we have bad to pay all the burial expenses in cach case no ne can claim that we have shot for fun.. It cost us $36 co'd cash to plant Jim in decent shape, and no one would have given 310 for him when alive,

The port is a veritable dove-cot, but I am sorry to have to say that the number of doves is fast diminishing. Those that are left, however, are as comsty as those who have taken the oath to "love, honour and obey"
On Saturday the 18th inst. another marriage was celebrated. In tuis instance it was Mi Jessic Start Pullock, only daughter of Mr. Wm. Follock, of the Imperil Chinese Cuvioms, to Mr. C Pape, also of the Customs at Kowicon. The Customs is shewing up strong in love alliances, the members of this Service being especially noted, I believe, for their susceptible hearts. The ceremony took place at the house of the bride's father “a l'Ecoss.is,"
We now have to leave these festive subjects behind and turn our thoughts and attention to an event which is one of the fanumerable examples of the uncertainty of this life. The China Navigation Company's steamship Sung tiang let Shanghai for Swalow via Wuhu on the ith inst. The Sungkinng arrived here on the /morni›g of Mord y the 20th last, at 11,39, with the Doctor's flag flying at the fire, and we could see that a stranger was on the bridge, who afterwards turned out to be the chief officer. Poor Glasson was inmediately removed to the hospital at Kak-Chlo, and throughout Monday night and all day on Tuesday remained most of the time insensible. A few short periods of consciousness, however, came, in one of which he made his will, and at about 11 o'clock the same night he breathed his fast. The funeral took place on Wednesday morning at yo 10, and, was attended by all the Europeans in Swalow. The flags of all the shipping in the harb ur, the Cestoms, and the Consulates were half-mast during the day as a tribu'e of respect to the memory of o e, who but a shot time ago was with us in life and health.
