Smith and Slavin fought this morning on private grounds, three miles from here. "The struggle was for the heavyweight championship. of England. The friends of both parties squah- bled from the outset, The Smith party seemed inclined to prevent the meeting, and placed every obstacle it could in the way of bringing the men together. At the ring-side the proceedings were disgraceful. The ring was finally broken into and the fight declared a draw.

Smith fought Slavin to the ropes in the seventh round, when some of the crowd kicked Slayin several times. Neither Smith's nor Slavin's seconds made profest against this action by the ring-siders.

In the eighth round Slavin knocked Smith down. The spectators arain attacked Slavin in the ninth round and struck him repeatedly.

In the thirteenth round Smith's sympathizers again attacked Slavin, Smith baving been again knocked down.

In the fourteenth round Slavin made an ap- peal to the crowd for fair play. The sympathi; r of Smith der ded him, and raising a cry of Police" bolted. Smith also fed, but Slavin remained in the ring.
