THE Punjom Co.'s report will be found in another part of this issue. With reference to the meeting of shareholders in this Company, to be held on Monday afternoon, a good deal of dissatisfaction has recently been expressed at the reticence of the Directors in matters of serious importance to the shareholders, and as we understand that some correspondence has taken place on this matter, we would venture to suggest that the Chairman be prepared to give all reasonable explanations. We are of opinion hatin a Com- pany of this character, a parely speculative business so far as this colony is concerned, all telegrams and other information of interest should at once be circulated amongst the share- holder. It is well known that members of the Board are large operators on the Share Market, and it is manifestly unfair that these gentlemen should have the advantage of exclusive and pro- bably valuable information, which is equally the property of the shareholder Further discus-Profit and Loss sion on this subject may safely be left over until after the meeting on Monday.

Two cases of assault with deadly weapons came before Mr. Robinson at the Polics Court this morning. In one case it was a master-stone- muson who was charged by a man who used to be in his employ with having playfully made a revolver target of him yesterday at Yau-ma-ti. No reasons were assigned for the act, and so the Magistrate remanded the case for the police to find out about the matter, fixing bail at a hundred dollars. The next case was a more serious ona, as It shows how strong in numbers and daring the rowdy element in this colony is getting to be and how apparently inadequate for the purpose is the present police force. The complainant, bricklayer named Wong Ko, stated that while

In my opinion the present season's Sub- scription Griffins, as a mob, are of a better class than in previous years. They are fairly good- looking and racing-like, they can all gallop a bit, and so far as I have seen there is not a single "crock" in the entire contingent. The times they are credited with having done in Shanghai over the Valley Stakes distance—and no better man than Major Tripp could have been selected to superintend the "shroffing,"are far in advance of all previous records made by this class of pony, so that; taking all things into consideration, there seems every reason to believe that the pe formances of Shell, Duncan Gray, and Wagga Wagga will be completely eclipsed.
