This popular gentleman was defendant this morning in a case heard by Mr. Justice Wise, in the Summary Court, in which Messrs. H. and J. Sampson claimed $150, brokerage on 301 Sugar shares.-Mr. Caldwell appeared for the plaintiffs, and briefly narrated the grounds action.
Mr. Hector Sampson was then sworn, and stated that be sold a co siderable number of Sugar shares for the defendant in August. He gaye details of the various sales, and said that he had asked for payment with regard to the 300 in question and had been refused,
Cross-examined-He had received a cheque for $12.50 from the defendant, on account of 25 of the shater, but had returned it, and asked for payment in full. Defendant, when he sent the cheque, said that he had had a very bad setile ment with Ho Tim, having had to take payment promissory notes.
