The status of a Corean is seen by the beast he rides on, None but high officials are allowed to ride on mules, the next in rank being the horse which is utilised by traders and the middle classes. The ox fs ridden only by the lower classen. A man of the people caught riding a mule the other day, goes about now minus an ear,
The police authorities have set up a bell on a brick tower, about thirty five feet high, which in future will be made the vehicle of information as to fires and riots,
Another curious custom the Coreans hate, which, to say the least, is repaisive to the anini tiated, and that is they consider a puppy's caul to be the highest of delicacies, and Corean epicureans often pay high prices for this article whenever they wish to do special honor to a distinguished guest. No sooner does a bitch listes, than the eager hand of the Corean' seizes with avidity on the cauls, and having possessed hims If of them, (if in poor circumstances) rushes to the King's palace to sell his treasures to the highest bidder. If the lucky man happen to be in casy circumstances, he issues special cards inviting his most intimate friends to join him ini. discussing this curious delicacy.
NOTES FROM CHINESE PAPERS,
The Ts'un Wazreports two deaths in Canton arising from brawis in brothels, the victims being fashionable young "bloods," and the murderers paid bullies of those establishments.
