MISTAKEN FOR A BEGGAR.

THE PERSIAN MINISTER INHOSPITABLY TURNED AWAY.

Hadjl Hasseln Ghooly Khao, the Persian Minister to the United States, is just recovering from a severe shock which his Oriental dignity sustained a few weeks ago in Washington. Recently he ventured to make a few formal calls, this being his first appearance in society since the occurrence in question. As a repre- sentative of one of the oldest existing dynasties, Hadji Hasseln Ghooly Khan prides himself upon his social qualifications, Like most of the foreign diplomats, he is quite "a society man," but bis Oriental magnificence lends to him an exceptional charm in the eyes of the captain's “less than 400.". He is accordingly welcomed with effusive pleasure in various official homes, and no member of Ward McAllisters more or less famous "400" is stricter. In the observance of social rules, regulations and duties. One fine afternoon a few weeks ago, Hadji Hasseln Ghooly Khan took hit visiting list and started on his
