YOKOHAMA, July 20th Details of the catastrophe at Bandai-san reach Tokyo in a disjointed form. Seven- teen bodies have been disintered. Throughout an area of tweri radius from the mountain, trees, shrubs and crops bave been completely destroyed. The river Nagase is dammed, and has inundated its banks to a distance of two ri, The roaring sounds and tremblings of the ground have ceased.

Another telegram from the same place, dated 11.15 a.m. the same day, says Forty-four bouses were buried to a depth of about twenty feet. Forty-three were crashed and twelve were more or less ruined. The number of persons killed is about 500. Forty-eight bodies have been recovered. The rest are still under the ashes. Thirty-seven people are under "medical treatment. The dead bodies of forty-five horses have been found.

With an exchange of characters both actresses would have been perfect, for each acted and sung with great power and feeling. Miss Hare's trained voice was expecially effective in her dream-song, and the duetts with Thaddeus owed much of their favorable reception to her. The passionate part of the Gipsy Queen was finely played by Miss Morrison, too. Her stormy scenes with Devilshoof and Thaddeus showed that she is as capable inftragle roles as she is charming in softer ones. But she ought to attack Arline with a dagger, not a horse pistol, and have the point turned against herself by Devilshoof, instead of being shot from behind the scenes. Miss Eva Leamington, as Buda, the nurse, had little to do, but she did it with conscientiousness not frequently seen in minor paris. The rest of the ladies were en evidence, but alas! we cannot say very much for thein, Miss Whiteford was a gipsy girl-and she had blonde hair and a debardeur satin dress! She lanced and sung, as she always does, like a little fairy, and well earned the basket of flowers fished over the footlights to her, but she looked incongruous. Miss Vera Patey committed the same lault, in a lesser degree. Golden hair, ladies, is pretty, but it isn't gipsy. But Miss Patey looked so piquant, and danced so fascinatingly, in the first act, gaining an imperative iccall-that her absence afterwards was quite missed. Miss Arline had the least opportunities of all, as one of the gipsy girls, but she looked pretty. For the actors we have only the most unqualified praise. The Thaddeus of Mr. Fisher was admirable.
