A NEW system of sewage works has been recently put into operation at Henley-on-Thames, England. Its object is to avoid the discharge of the sewage into the river-which can no longer be allowed-and lift it to a level which will permit it to be used for irrigation. Fjectors are placed in different parts of the town to receive the sewage, and from there it is forced by compressed air into tanks about a mile distant, and 180 feet higher in elevation. The method is not costly, has proved practicable and may offer a success. ful solution of the question of the disposal of the sewage of low-lying lawns. -

The Shanghai young man must in no way be confounded with the Singapore young man-it is never cold in Singapore-nor with the Japanese young man, nor, alıpye all, with the Shanghai elderly young man. The phrase "ciderly young man is rather cumbersome, but what better can be used for, as everyone who knowe Shanghai knows, there are no old nor are there any witolly elderly pen there.
