desires it to be understood thy if this scheine is Anttioned on the terms proposed, the Marine Lotholders will obtain the reclamations in front of their lots, not as a matter of right, but simply, as a pilvilege the concession of which happens to be convenient. The foreshore belongs to the Cen; aut to the, Crown alone belongs the riphit of reclamation and of ownership in the land reclaimed, the only obligation attaching to the later being that of compensating the frontage owner for the difference, if any, between the value of his. Marine Lot and the value of the sanie land converted into an Inland Lot by the reclamation in front of it.
Authe Governor is anxious, to lose no time in transmitting theplans, estimates and other papers connected with this project to the Secret-ry of state for the Colonies, His Excellency desires. me to request you to be good enough to favour me with the final reply of the lot-owners interested -at-your-early-convenience

THE TANK LANE MURDER CASE. T'pur Bharon or thỂ "Hungrong "thusgraph.":, SYour evening contemporary printed on Saturday a leading article, commenting on the decision of the Jury on the Tank Lane murder
case.
+
It seems to me that the well known speech of the late Earl of Beaconsfield can be adopted to answer this venturesome man who criticizes the decision of a Jury in a case which they heard" and which tie did not. I would put the question
to you in the following words -
་
THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH, MONDAY, JUNE 25, 1888.
It having been found that the number of steamers at the disposal of the General Managers was hardly adequate to enable them to take their full share in the coasting business, The Board, under their advice, contracted for the new steamer, Choy Sang, built by Messrs. Hati; Russell & Co., of Aberdeen. This vessel, after a satisfactory trial trip, in which she tuo came up to the expectation of her builders and of the Board, was despatched from London to Chim with a full cargo on the 20th April. She is expected to constitute a valuable, addition to the fleet.
The Auditous, Mesirs, Turquand, Yours & Co., likewise retire, but offer themselves for re-election.

Your obedient servant,
