The Comercio reports that Mr. Thos. Abinson an American, on landing at Manila from the steamship Remus from Cchú, found that his servant, a native of Bohol, bad absconded carrying away his master's trunk which contained all, his wearing apparel,. $400 in cash, and a draft for $2,000 on Messrs. Macleod & Co. of Manila. The police were communicated with on the subject, but no trace of the thief has so far been found.

TA This was an action for the recovery of $1293, money advanced on a 50 banknote which proved to be forged.-Mr. Robinson (instructed by Messis, Sharp Johnson and Stokes) represented the plaintiff, and Mr. J. J. Francis, QC., (instructed by Mr. Webber) appeared for the defendant,

Mr. Robinson stated that his client was a Chinese banker, carrying on business at 147 Queen's-road Central, and the defendant kept the boarding-house Yan Wo Chan at gi, Praya Central. On the 24th December, fast the defendant called on the plaintiff, and requested him to change a banknote for £50, issued by the "Royal Adelaide Bank, South Australia." Plaintiff possessed no information respecting outside his Lusiness as a Chinese banker, Australian banks, and the transaction was but being willing to oblige the defendant he ultimately agreed to negotiate the note on the terms that the defendant should repay or refund the, money advanced in case plaintiff should not be able to get it honoured. He then advanced $293, and afterwards found that no defendant to repay the money, and as he refused, such bank was known. He therefore asked the
