THE VICTORIA COLLEGE.
When the question asked by Mr. A. P. MacEwen re pecting the delay in the completion of the Victoria College was re (ched. that matter was passed he desired, in the His Excellency, interrupting, said that before nusence of Mr. McEwen, to answer that quce tion, it being one of some public interest. The delay was due partly to a mistake as to time, which appeared to him to be an excusable one in connection with a work of such magnitude, involving a cost of $100,000, and partly to the loss in the Red Sea of the roof ordered for the main structure, which delayed the work some time, pending the arrival of a new one, and the commencement of the work on the main building.

BRISBANE, April 23rd. A terious gunpowder explosion occurred this evening, on the Fortitude Valley railway line, now under construction. Four n vvies, who constituted part of the night shift, were going. down the shaft into the tunnel, when one dropped a lighted candle which exploded 25lb. of gunpowder and some dynamite detonators which had been left at the bottom of the shaft.. The men were almost blown out of the shaft, and then fell to be bottom. They were promptly rescued and taken to the hospital. They were found to have been dreadfully injured, but hopes are entertained of their recovery..
