Commercial.

THIS DAY,

Noon.

· Banks are rather firmer this morning being in request for cash at 188, and for September joth at 191 per cent. premium respectively, No business, however, has been reported. North China Insurance stock is slightly weaker, shares to a limited extent being on offer at the reduced rate of 1300. Hongkong Fires could be placed at 3424; but holders decline to part at that price. Dacks remain nominally at $7 per cent. premium, but we think that a genuine offer at even a lower quotation would lead to business. Sales of the Indo-China S. N. Co/'s scrip at 17 per cent, discount were put through last night, but there are still sellers at this reduced rate. China Sugars are 'very weak at 150, and a still further fall may be looked for.

4 o'clock p.m. Share business is unusually quiet, so quiet, in fact, that the noble army of brokers must find it no easy task to drift through
