We learn that the recent numerous deaths occurring amongst the native of Qwan Tao and Sharp Peak, are assigned by the natives to quite a different cause to that of an epidemic. It appears that a high civil official having died at the former port, five mandarins proceeded from Foochow in one of their houseboats, to attend. the funeral of the deceased. Shortly before reaching their destination, a squall suddenly capsized their vessel; the result being the drown ing. of its previbus occupants. The supposition, were justly punished for recent misdeeds, and or rather superstition, is that those who perished
