which had been published in the local papers. The alterations referred to the malding up of the accounts quarterly instead of half yearly for the latter half of the present year,
Mr.. Foss wished to know if there were any minutes of the private meeting to be stad, as
they would be interesting to those who were

The Chairman explained that the private meeting of the shareholders had been called for the purpose of obtaining the general assent of the shareholders to an increase of the capital, and to inspect the plans shewing the proposed alterations.

There is not much of Patagonia that has ever been thought worth fighting for, but the portion east of the Andes is more naturally related to the Argentine Republic than to Chile, and in the matter of boundary the former is quite as likely to be in the right as the jealous and somewhat obstreperous Power on the Pacific, which is stretching out eager hands to grasp the whole continent. The treatment Peru is receiving at the hands of Chile is not only antagonizing the neighboring States, but calling forth remon strances from the whole civilized world. All the revenues of the conquered country are being, diverted into Chilean coffers to pay the war in- deminity, the funds that have been devoted to the maintenance of the schools taking thesame course. tinue for ten years, a new and half-barbarous generation will appear upon the scene, whose only well-learned lesson will be a blind hatred for the Government from which their country |(kr. has suffered so much and whose only desire will be for vengeance.
