The Dove Paint Beacon Light has been shifted 8 yards to the N. 60 E. of its former position, in consequence of the washing away, of The Buckminster Island Deacon Light has been shifted to a position opposite to Tuchou walled village, in consequence of the washing away of the lower end of the Island.
The rocks which are laid down on the British Admiralty Chart (No. 2,618) of Kelung Harbour as bearing N. 652 deg. E. (true), distant a little more than two cables from Ruin Rock, and having 18 feet of water on them, have now a depth of only 14 feet on them at low water spring tides.
A correspondent at Newchwang, under date 27th January, writes that there were then large quantities of grain coming in to the city from the country around. This piece of information is good news for steamship companies, whose boats will have, in consequence, plenty to do on the opening of the season.
The Captain of one of the Mail Steamers run- ning regularly to this port, has reported that in November last he observed heavy breakers, apparently, caused by a sunken rock or reef, about one mile in a South-casterly direction from the isle of Tongling, Another observer, who saw the breakers at the same time, states that they appeared to be from one half to three quarters of a mile South of the lises. The posi tion of Tongting as given in China Sea Direc- tory is Lat. 29. 51. 42. N. and Long, 122. 35. 48 E.-Courier.

The largest gasometer here exploded fast night. Eight persons were injured. The greater portion of the south of Glasgow was left in darkness and a panic was nearly caused in consequence. Sub sequently a shed belonging to the Caledonia Railroad Company, was blown up. The explo sion is supposed to be the work of Fenians. A soldier to-day picked up on the bank of the Forth and Clyde Canal a ti box which exploded on an attempt being made to open it. Two persons were injured.

The World says: Our cable dispatches from Paris fully confirm the view taken by the Paris correspondent of the World of the troubles likely to follow the hasty and violent action of the French Govern- ment in the matter of Prince Napoleon and his manifesto. In the House of Deputies, yesterday, Curio Dornano questioned the Government in regard to the removal of Prince Napoleon's manifesto, and charged the judicial authorities with the violation of the Press law of 1881. Deves, Minister of Justice, replied that the Judge had acted in the free exercise of his discretion when he described Napoleon's act as a crime. The Chamber passed it to the order of the day by a vote of 400 to 88.
The Khedive has conferred the decoration of the Order of Medjidie of the first class upon Bredif, late French Controller.
FESTI, January 23rd. In the Lower House to-day, Jokay energetically advocated the placing of Jews on a complete equality with the adherents of other creeds. His remarks were greeted with cheers. Tiszay, Pre- sident of the Council, said the prejudice against the Jewish race would expire through social in- fluences only. If society should prove itself un- equal to the task, then would exceptional legisla tion become necessary.
