Along stand was made, no less than eight of the players reaching double figures. Gordon headed the poll with a grandly hit 71, which included one eight, one seven, a quartette of fours, six threes, and five twos. Dor mer played brilliantly for 55 before being run out, and Dobson (not out 41); Bird (27); Briggs (37) Rice (24) and Hodder (17) all assisted to swell the grand total, which eventually reached 287. runs. On the departure of last mail rumours were in circulation in Paris that Admiral Jaureguiberry
had tendered his resignation of the Ministry of Marine, in consequence of a disagreement with President Grévy and his colleagues on the subject of the Tong King Expedition. These reports, however, have been semi-officially contradicted; though there seems little doubt that the Admiral, displeased at the opposition to the Tong King Expedition, did contemplate retirement from the Ministry.
WE regret to find, says the Shanghai Mercury of the 22nd inst., that we were in error about Mr. Chu Yu-zun on Friday. He says he owed Th. 100,000 and paid his creditors Tis. 80,000. The man attacked was a broker connected with a silk hong (perhaps the same) whose proceedings about money matters had embarrassed them. It was him for whom the two eminent Chinese

WE regret to learn that the Norwegian steamer Odin, well-known in this port, has been wrecked on Tung-Ying Island. The Agents of the vessel here, received a tele gram from Amoy yesterday afternoon to the effect that the Odis had run on Tung-Ying in a fog, and afterwards gone down, the whole, of the crew being saved. No further news of the disaster have come to hand. The Odin was saber ded by Capt. Dorcash, and left Hong kong on the 11th inst. for Nagasaki. When she was wrecked she was returning from that port burthen.
