Commercial.

THIS DAY,

Noon. The scrip of the recently formed Manila and China Ston Ship Company made its first appearance on the Stock Exchange this morning, and a fair amount of busi- ness was put through at 15 per cent, pre- miúm, which may be take as a pretty good indication of the confidence reposed by the public in the success of this now un- dertaking. The trade between this port and the Philippines can no doubt be largely increased, and judging from past experi ences the shareholders of the Manila and China S. S. Co..may restassured thattheir interests could not be in better hands than in those of the general managers, Messrs. Russell & Co. We understand that it has

been resolved to augment the strength of the Company's flect by the addi- tion of one or more steamers specially. constructed to meet the peculiar require- ments of the Manila trade, and believe that Captain R. Talbot of the Esmeralda will leave for England by the next English mail, to superintend the con- *struction of the first new steamer and to bring her out to the Far East.
