For this, the great race of the meeting, there was the large field of thirteen starters. Firist Cornet and Prejudice were backed against the field, and they were also backed against each other, while Montezuma and White Knight were the most fancied of the others. A good start was effected at the second time of asking, Tajmahal and Prejudice taking the lead, with all the others close up in a cluster. No change took place in the front rank till nearing the stables, where Montezuma, joining Tajanhal and Prejudice, cut out the running up the back. Straight. At the Gardens the lot came well together in a nick, but Montezuma's colours still showed to the fore, while Mr. Paul's two ponies and White Knight on
