from Europe, and preparations for the de- "parture of the homeward mail having pro. bably monopolised to a considerable ex tent the attention of brokers, and others. There have been several faint inquiries. after Banks at 146 per cent. premium ;, but as holders decline to sell for less than 147 no sales took place. The only actual transactions which have come under our notice, were a few transfers of Docks at 53 per cent, premium, fur cash, For the end of the month a small business

has also been arranged at 54. At the cash rate, the stock remains in fair demand, with buyers. Luzons are temporarily un der a cloud. When we went to press on Saturday this serip was eagerly inquired - after by anxious buyers at 106; this morn. ing it is freely offered at that price with out in lucing a single believer in the stock to come to the rescue, Perhaps a change for the better will again take place before these lines are in print. Nodoubt the typhoon reported to be raging in the Philippines yesterday has to some extent influenced the present status of Luzons. Still the very erratic. "see-saw" business which has been so closely identified with the history of the Luzon Sugar Refinery stock on the Hongkong Share Market for a very long time past, must be the reversu of satisfactory to investors-not speculators --who placed money in the concern in good faith. That the market has been worked again and again to suit certain interests is quite certain; and that fact is more than enough to justify holders of the scrip in regarding share market move- ments with suspicion. No other business requires special notice this morning.

1 o'clock p.m. Since noon Banks have been negociated at 147, but sellers have now the command of the market, the buyers at the increased rate being few in number, and not large purchasers, China Fires are on offer at 340, a reduction of 2), but no business in this stock has come to our notice.. Small further sales of Docks have been put through at 53 cash and 54 for the end of the month; a few shares could still be placed at the cash quotation. Luzons-are still a mystery; there are offers to buy at 101 cash, and sales have taken place at tog for the end of February. Nothing else requires comment,
