THIS DAY,
Noon,
There has been a good deal of bustle on the Stock Exchange, and the many in- quiries after the various stocks on the market, 'would lead one to believe that business was brisk. However, actual busi- `ness has been almost a dead letter, at least it has been, limited to "enquiries.”
A few Hongkong Fires changed hands after we went to press on Saturday...at 1,0.10-an advance of 5 on previous quota- tion-and there are still buyers at the price. Banks could easily be placed at 139 per cent. premium, for cash, but there is no scrip on offer at a lower rate than 140, and even at this figuro the supply is limited. China Fires. have slightly improved their position, buyers vainly tendering 3271, and if shares are forthcoming we fancy that 330. will be readily paid. Dneks sland nomin- ally, with sellers, at $3 per cent." pré- mium. Steamboats are again in demand,
and in much better odour thân of late,
several commissions at 29 per share premium being in hand; but holders stand firm, and a higher price w have to be paid before any sales are re- corded. The scrip of the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company has been _made_the_subject_of_faint inquiries_at 7per cent, discount; but nothing definite has re- sulted. There are sellers at 5, but at that rate would-be buyers stand aloof. A furthersuries of transactions in Luzons—' on time-have to be reported at the old rate--110 per share for the end of the year. For cash a few shares might be placed at 107, lees have been offered this forenoon at 1521, but so far, no record of any transactions in this stock has reached
us.
