Commercial.
THIS DAY.
4 o'clock p.m. We have to report some very extensive transactions in Barks, which have been put through this morning The stock was firm with buyers at 135 per cent. premium, on Saturday, andassoon as the market opened to-day, it became evident that orders from Shanghai had increased the demand. First
at 136, and afterwards at 137 for cash, a large number of shares-changed hands;
I on time, at 139 for the end of October, "and 141 for the end of November, a con- siderable business was booked. These "seem high rates--ridiculously high, to our.
"way of thinking --and we can only attri-
bute the transactions enumerated above, to a bulling movement, of which Shanghai is the head quarters. The spirit of specula. tion must be strong in our midst, when the spares of the Hongkong and Shanghai- Banking Corporation-considering all things are bought and sold at 141 per cent, premiumi. A few sales of Docks at 53 have been reported, and the supply has nol- been quite exhausted at the rate. 'Steamboats are, if anything, rather firmer than has been the case for the past few days, buyers offering 30 pur share pre- mium, without' inducing 'holders to sell. Luzons, on the other hand, are again in- clined to be weaker, offers to sell at 105 for cash failing to lead to business, No- thing else worth (chronicling has come under our notice.
