THIS DAY.

Noon. Banks, are now in much better orlour than they have been for some time past and it would appear that great hopes are entertained of the present storm in the puliti al world passing away without doing ranch damage,

to be seen. On Saturday, Banks were very firm at 124 per cent, premiui, and a fair business was done un tin:" at 125 for August 31st. What effectly latest polit- ical telegram that received yesterday forenoon may have on the market status of the stock is at present a matter for eune jecture. A few Chinese Insurance shares have changed hands this morning at 230 Docks have changed hands at 47 per cent

premiunt, and there are still sellers at the quotation. The scrip of the China Sugar Refining Company is in strong demand at 178 per share.

4 o'clock.p.m. Banks are scarcely so firm as they were this morning, the offers to buy at 122 hav ing been withdrawn, and we think a num- ber of shares could easilys be obtained at that rate.

A trifling transfer in the stock of the China Fire Insurance Company has been reported at 320. Buyers still offer 178 for Sugar shares, but holders refuse to sell under 180. Other quotations re- main unaltered.
