With reference to the case of the Hechnig v the Lapwing, the opening of which is reported in another column, the Judicial Committee of the THE BUFFS THEATRICALS.

Privy Council gave judgment yesterday, confirm ing the decision of the Court below, so far as the learned judges' findings are concerned, namely, that both vessels were to blame. The Judicial Committee, however, varied the judgment as to the liability for damage sustained, by directing each vessel to pay one-half thereof. No costs were given on either side. This is a great suc- cess for the China Merchants Steam Navigation Company, who will i recover some 35,000, being half the value of their vessel, less a moiety of the damage sustained by the Lapwing, which, as we understand, will not exceed two or three thousand pounds Messrs.
