Commercial.
THIS DAY, FOUR г.. Although to-day," being Whit-Monday, is supposed to be a general holiday, we have some very important share transac- tions to chronicle. Payers of Banks, un- able to procure shares at 117 per cent. premium, at last tendered a point more, and at 118 a large business has been put through. The demand for the stock, even at this advanced rate, became so strong that the all the scrip on the market was soon taken up, and now buyers vainly offer the price. A large and important busi- ness has been done in the stock of the
Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Company, at 52 per cent, premium. At this rate a sill larger number of shares might be placed; however, holders refuse to sell un- less at an increased price, so we can best -define the market status of these shares by stating that they are very firm with buyers --and no sellers--at 52. The most impor- tant business of the day has, however, been transacted in the stock of the China Sugar Relining Company, Limited. Commencing at 165 a very large number of shares changed hands, and, as the demand in-, creased so the quotation rasé until 168 was asked for, and paid. At the last named rate further business was booked, and the scrip is still wanteil, but there are nu sellers at the price. Luzons are in high favour at 118, however, no business has been noted, nor have we received any report of any changes, in other stocks.
