Captain Thomsett, with being a rogue and vaga- was charged this morning on reniand, before
bond and begging in the street. Police Constable McGregor said he fad defendant begging in Upper Lascar Row from door to door and from people in the street. He told him to go away but he refused. He was under the influence of ligour. Defendant said he came to Hongkong in March of last year, and that he was unable to obtain employment. Three previous convictions as a rogite and vagabond being reported agains, him, the Magistrate sentenced him to three months' imprisonment with hand labour. A RATHER curious case of attempting to steal a silver watch from Chinese Police Constable 180, was heard before Captain Thomsett this morning. The Constable said that saturday last at 7.30 p.. he was at the theatre in Ap Li Chau, when he saw defendant come' alongside of him, and felt some one touch his purse. He scized the defendent's hand, and on charging him with trying to rob him, defendant gave him a siap on defendant and he had a struggle. sergeant Jones the face. The affair happened in a crowd, and
