Commercial.
THIS DAY, Foun r.a. Business in'shares is at present under a cloud, and there is litlé probability of busier tintes until after the monthly settle- ment. Brokers are amusing thêmselves making inquiries of each other, but all at- tempts to lead in definite transactions have ended fruitlessly. Quotations are practi- cally the same as they were yesterday as they have been for days past. We had an idea that a few transfers in Dorks might have the chronicled to-day : but the special negotiations eventually came to nothing, the would-be layer declining to tender more than 53 per cent. prémium. Banks could be placed at 113. but holders 'refuse to part with their seripat a lower rate than 114 per cent. premium for March 31st. We quote Sugars at 164, with sellers, but as a matter of fact these shares might be obtained at a considerably lower rate than that although probably not to any great extent. Although there has been a lemand for the Ice Company's stuck for some time past, no higher offer than 137 has been brought under our notice, and at this figure holders decline to sell. Hotels remain quite firm at to, but there is really none of this scrip on the market.
