THIS DAY, FOUR P.M.
The Share Market has been rather dull to-day, although sufficient business has been transacted to indicate that in the opinion of a good many buyers the present. time is most favorable for investment in those local stocks which aher a season of depreciation slow such a healthy tone." The recovery of prices in certain securities has become so generál. that it is apparent the greatest faith is placed by investors in the immediate prospects of the local com- panies with head-quarters in Hongkong, The depreciation in Bank stock existed for a very short period, and notwithstanding the apparently well authenticated reports of serious lusses recently sustained in busi- ness by the Corporation, public confidence was never appreciably shaken, and has, as a matter of fact, been thoroughly restored,

We reported yesterday a fair March 16, CHINKIANG, British str., for Ning March 12, FRANCISCO REYES, Spanish steamer, Kiung-chow, British steamer, 159, Goggin.-
amount of transfer business in Banks at
113 per cent, premium, and have now to chronicle further cash sales at the advanced rate of 1 14. There is still a strong demand for the scrip at the latter quotation; but hoklers are apparently satisfied to hold on for the present, so that the requisite shares have not been forthcoming. Hongkong Fires show a further depreciation, sellers offering to do business at 935 without ob- taining a response. Dorks are promi- nently strong in pulilic favor, à large hum. ber of shares having again changed hands at 55 per cent. premium for cash, and also on time for March 31st at 56. There are still cash hayers at 55, and general symp torps are sufficiently favorable to induce one to believe that a higher price is likely to be paid before the maximum quotation is reached. However, we cannot but think, remembering the events of the past eight months, that the market value of Dorks is getting dangerously high, notwithstanding the Company's brilliant prospects of future prosperity. Further sales of Steamboats at 23 per share premium have to be noted,: and the stock is steaily at the price. A brisk inquiry after both Hotels and Sugars have led to ho definite results, but we shall doubtless have to report business in both of these storks before the end of the week. NILARES,
