THIS DAY, FOUR P.31. *The annual report of the China Sugar Relining Company for the year, 1881, which we publish in another column-ap-- pears to have mut with a generally favor able reception at the hands of the share: hulders, and has already beneficially af forted the market status of the stock. We have briefly sketched in a short editorial- to which we refer our commercial readers --the past work achieved by this Com- pany, and made some allusions to its fu- ture prospects, hazarding opinions which; we think will be horne out by results. However, we shall doubtless find time to deal more exhaustively with the Hongkong Sugar industry in its various aspects by and bye. A fair amount of business has been transactedto-day in Sugars at 170 cash, and also on time at 171 for March 31st, the stock leaving off steady at these rates. Hong- kong, Fires show a noteworthy depre ciation, a number of shares being on the market at 950 without finding purchasers. Banks are quiet ; but although no business has liven reported they are firm, with buyers, at 143 per cent, premium. China Fires, on the other hand, are weak, offers to sell at 2873 meeting with no response. Dorks have again improved their position, a lot of shares having byen negotiated for eash at 53 per cent. premium, and at 534; for the end of the month. There are still Layers for cash at 53, and 54 is offered for March 31st without leading to further business. At last Steamboats have made a move, a number of sales having been booked this forenoon at 24 per share premium for cash, and there is still a steady demand for the scrip at that rate. A large time business has also been put through at 25 for the end of April, buyers having the field to themselves at the finish. We have to report a number of transactions in Hotels at 107. the whole of the shares offered at this price having quickly been taken up. The lee Company's scrip is in strong demand at 126, but no actual transfers have come under our notice.
