Commercial.
THIS DAY, Four P.M. Docks have again occupied a deal of attention on the Stock Exchange, and we have to report further large sales at ad- vanced rates. A very extensive business has been transacted at 51 and 52 per cent.. premium for cash, the shares having gone into what may be termed good hands; and the demand has not been fully supplies as yet, as offers to buy at $2 are still being made, without however finding sellers. These im- portant legitimate transactions have been supplemented by a large business "an time" al 53 and 54 for the end of March, and 55 and 56 for the end of April. At each and all of these rates a very large number of shares has changed hands-on paper. No cash transactions in Banks have to be recorded; but we traced the transfer of one small lot at 121 per cent. premium for the end of March.
Buyers offer 118 cash, but, so far, no actual busi- ness has come under our notice. Chi- nese Insurances are again rather weaker, offers to sell at 280 per share failing to Attract purchasers. Hongkong Fires, on the other hand, have, taken an upward movement; buyers having failed to obtain shares at 950 now offer 955, but holders who are inclined to sell ask 960, and no doubt business will be done at that rate. There are buyers of China Fires at the old rate-290 per share-but no transfers have been effected since our last issue. Steamboats also remain very quiet in the market, and so far as we know they have not even been inquired after. In Hotel stock we heard some rumours of sales having been effected on Saturday night at par; however, we were unable to trace the busi- pess, so cannot vouch for the correctness of the rumour: This scrip is no doubt in much better request than it has been for a considerable time, with buyers-and no sellers at 97 per share. Our anticipa tions regarding Sugars again" proved correct, as the stock has been in demand at an advanced quotation—165—without, | however, leading to business, as holders appear very unwilling to sell at any price. The stock has a decidedly upward ten- dency, and we think it will probably bu quoted at a still higher rate during the next few days.

LETTER BOXES,
Many boxes of letters are received at the Post Office not scaled, that is to say, the box is fastened with sealing wax, but there is no impression of a scal.
The attention of boxholders is called to the necessity of carefully sealing such boxes with some recognisable scal, and of sending a chit- book or receips with them. The omission of the latter precaution leaves a doubt as to whether the contents of the box ever reached the Post Office: the omission of the former, as to whether part of them might not have been abstracted for the sake of the Postage Stamps.
