THIS DAY, FOUR P.M. Although Hotels have not been "placed" at 292) cum dividend, as reported by our morning contemporary, this stock is in prelty good odour, and after a fair amount of business at gah per share, there is still a Sellers, demand for the scrip at that rate. however, hold out for better terms. We iraced a small transaction in China Traders'

·Insurances at 1,500. Hongkong Fires are *firm with buyers at 950 per share, although

no actual business has conic under our notice since we last wrote. China Fires, on the other hand, are slightly weaker, sellers offering to come to terms at 290. As our yesterday's ramarks in- dicated would be the case, Docks have materially improved their position in the market. After good business at 45 per cent. premium, 46 was vainly offered with- out finding sellers, and 47 was eventually lendered and accepted, although not to a very large extent. There are still plenty buyers at 46, but holders decline to dea! unless at an advanced quotation, and we doubt not that 47, and perhaps even a higher rate, will be paid before our next report. Nothing has been done in Steam- boats, and Sugars remain at yesterday's -rate-162} per share. Banks remain fairly steady at 118 per cent. premium. There are a few shares from the north, on the

market at that figure, which will probably be taken up, as the stock wears a healthy look, several rumours which have been going the rounds for some days as to serious losses sustained recently, having apparently little foundation in fact.

The attention of boxholders is called to the necessity of carefully scaling such boxes with some recognisable seal, and of sending a chit
