Grass Valley, Sept. 1st.-An atrocious attempt at train-wrecking and robbery

was made on the Central Pacific Railroad, on Wednesday night, five miles above Colfax, in Placer county. Tho rails were moved on the main ling near Care Horn Mills Station; the engines and several cars of the cast-bound passenger train were ditched; the express, car was sur- rounded by several men, when suddenly the robbers fled, leaving behind masks, tools, cartridges, and other evidences of their preparation to secure the treasure ou the train. No passengers were injured. It is thought that the robbers intended to wreck the west-bound train, which was
known to carry a large amount of ballion.
