TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING NEWS,

SIR.In the perusal of your widely circulated journal, of the 11th instaut, I notice the police authorities at home roport the discovery of an infernal

powers that be will but open their eyes a little they will see that in this fair city of Sydney we have an infernal machine as bad, if not worse than the dynamite bombs and infernal clocks of the Fenians and Nihilists. The arrival of the Foglish Mail, this morning has provonted the transaction of any important business in shares, so that a few transfers of a minor charac- ter ouly require special attention. A few sales in Banks at 110 have been booked, and we think a good deal more business at that rate will be transacted in the course of the day. Steamboats are very firm at $24 per share premiun, holders declining to sell unless at an advance on that price.
