This, he said, was a practice fraught with great danger. to the people. It was high treason to offer armed resistance to the Queen's forces, and for not only those who actually carried arms, but for every person in the crowd, the penalty would be hanging. Dillon is certain, from the temper of many of the speeches made in Westminster of late, that the Government leaders are determined, if they get an opportunity in this re- gard, to make an example of some
one.
