entered Yale, armed with crowbars and pickaxes, and attacked Onder- donk's warehouse, stoning the police and injuring several severely. All the Chinese, 20,000 in number, on the Canadian Railway, have struck work.

The Grand Lodge of Scottish Freemasons has taken the extreme step of suspending "Lodge Canon gate and Leith No. 5." It has ex- isted for over 200 years, and during that time has done good service to freemasonry. But the Grand Lodge found that the books had been mutilated; and as other misdemean- ours were discovered there was no-

thing left but to take over the pro- perty and close the lodge. The af- fair has caused considerable annoy" ance to freemasons in Scotland.

The Chinese Government recently desired to mark its appreciation of the value of the instruction received by Chinese Naval officers at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, by decorating some of the staff. Per- mission has been given to those selected for this honor to accept the Orders, but they cannot, according to the existing regulation be worn by the recipients.

The two new steel vessels for the Chinese Government nnder construc- tion on the Tyne are now ready for their preliminary trials. Should these prove satisfactory, the official trial will be held soon after. It is expected that the full contract speed will be realised.

RAILROADS BLOCKADED.

DUBLIN, June 2.-It was reported last night that both the railways run- ning west from Cork, the Cork and Bandon, and the Macroon lines, had been tampered with, and a pilot engine was sent out in advance of the special. Four miles from Skibbereen it was found that a number of old rails had been placed across the road-bed, and that the culverts had been torn up; but the train was stopped in time to avoid a run off Mr. Warburth, the Resident Magistrate at Skibbereen, accompanied by the Messrs. Swanton, one of whom, the Ballydehob road, three weeks ago, it will be remembered, was fired at on and other Magistrates, met the troops, who were reinforced by the arrival of a body of constabulary under Inspector Frazer. The streets of the town wore filed with peasants, and the soldiers and police were hosted and stoned as they marched to the market square. In the meantime the news arrived of a riot at Ballydehob, last night, in which a body of marines was compelled to retreat ander the protection of the priests, and soon the Ballydehob rioters, with an enormous mob from Skull, Dainnoway, Butte Vant, Baotry and the districts round about, marched into Skibbereen.

"THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH."

DEAR SIR-With reference to the paragraph in your issue of the 9th instant, containing some remarks on my sketch of the Hongkong Races, which appeared in the London Graphic of the 4th Jane last, I beg to inform you that the sketch in question does not in any way represent my original Drawing as forwarded by me to that paper for publication. The same as appears in the Graphic contains many exaggerations which I am at a loss to understand.

this morning at that price, were they forthcoming. However holders seem disinclined for business at anything less than 108, and we have seen no transfers effected up to the time of going to press. Docks have still an upward tendency and after a good many sales, there are still buy- ers at 59. The Sugar Refining Company's stock is, if possible, weaker than when we last wrote, and plenty shares could be had at 170, but buyers, for some inexplicable reason, decline to make any offer. No doubt Sugars will find a proper level for legitimate operations in the. The principal features which I pur- course of the next few days.
