The following new method of ad- vertising, deserves encouragement.
The New York Mirror says that a Mr. Frank Gardner has hit upon au original dodge to advertise a star he will have on the road shortly, playing an adaptation of Bon Farjeon's novel "Grif." Ho will announce in each, town that every morning he will dis. distribute bread among the poor, and stamp it" Poor Grif's Offering." Lith- ographs, Gardner says, cost from eight to ton cents apieco, white bakers can be found at overy point who will contract to furnish bread at three or four cents per loaf. The Mirror, how- ever, points out that the class of people who carry away Gardner's advertise- ments to devour can scarcely bo dep- onded on to spend much money at the theatre.

The principal feature in Share transactions since our last issue, has been the steady run on Banks which now stand firm at 98, there being plenty buyers at this figure. Some business for the end of the month at 101 has been done, and it looks as if 105 might be reached before July 1st. Docks are steady at 54, but we doubt whether they will be able to maintain that quotation. Union Insurance Stock has an upward tendency at 1625, although no actual business has yet resulted. A fex sales of Chinese Insurance scrip at.. 312 have to be recorded, and the lot of Hotel shares which were on the market on Saturday at $95.00 have been cleared out at 90.. This how- ever by no means represents the true! market value of the stock, as there are no more on offer at the price. The appended quotations are subs- tantially correct, although in all stocks not particularly referred to above, they may be regarded as
