CASEWORK SERVICES

50. Two of the four District Offices are situated in Hong Kong to serve the people living on Hong Kong Island, as well as those living on the offshore islands. In Kowloon two district offices have been set up to serve the people living in Kowloon and the New Territories.

51. Any person with any type of social problem affecting himself or his family may apply to the nearest District Office, Family Services Centre or Interview Office for advice or assistance. An applicant is first interviewed by an 'intake' caseworker who makes a general assessment of the nature of his client's problems and the extent of his needs; the applicant is then further interviewed by a caseworker to establish the extent to which assistance can be given and in what form. Such interviews are conducted in the privacy of interviewing rooms and the applicant is told that any information supplied by him is kept in the strictest confidence.
