428. It is recommended that the docket system of indexing as detailed in Chap- ter XII should be adopted by the Library after amending the design of the docket to suit this purpose. This method will produce a subject index, a nominal (authors) index, a book title index, a numerical index, an issue register all in one typing opera- tion for each publication. When this recommendation is adopted and the present records copied on the new form of index, the use of the card index and two registers should be abolished.
Hansard.
429. The contents of the Hansard report are checked by the Deputy Clerk of Councils, each Member of Legislative Council and four clerks, one of these clerks check- ing three times.
430. It is recommended that two clerks only be used for checking of Hansard.
Name cards for Members of Councils.
431. At Council Meetings, name cards are placed in position opposite the seat occupied by each member. These cards are small, difficult to read from a distance and were in a soiled and worn condition.
432. It is recommended that the Public Works Department be asked to stencil these cards with half-inch letters, printing the name on both sides of the card, and also produce simple stands in the form of a single grooved batten, so that cards may be stood on edge and names be more easily read by persons attending, irrespective of their position in the Council Chamber.
Tender Board, Gazette notifications.
433. The Tender Board Register is sent to the Librarian to extract information and prepare a draft notice for the Gazette.
434. It is recommended that the design of the Tender Board Register should be amended to enable a fair copy of the Gazette notification to be typed direct from that record.
Storage of books.

Reduction of Library staff.
437. When the simplified procedures detailed above are adopted and operational experience gained, the posts of one assistant and one messenger should be abolished.
FINANCE CLERKS.
Bills for payment.
438. The Finance Clerk is required to prepare typed copies of all bills received by him when the supplier fails to send a duplicate copy.
439. It is recommended that suppliers should again be requested to submit their bills in duplicate.
Cash Book.
440. This book is ruled to provide 12 columns. It was found that 6 of these columns were not used, namely:—
