Adverting to my despatch No. 182 of the 2nd November, 1880, and to Your Lordship's despatch No. 30 of 15th March last, requesting the transmission of the formal reply of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank regarding the issue of One Dollar Notes, I have the honour to enclose, for Your Lordship's information, the reply referred to, by which the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Corporation, in the event of permission being given to them to open a branch at Singapore, undertake to withdraw their One Dollar Notes from circulation, if the Government decide to
issue One Dollar Notes.

I have the honour to transmit for Her Majesty's gracious allowance and confirmation, Ordinance No. 21 of 1882, entitled The Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Ordinance, Amendment Ordinance, 1882, which has been passed in accordance with the directions contained in Your Lordship's despatch No. 163 of 27th July last.
