A.-Four or five years.

A.-Never.

Q. Did you ever hear of anybody giving any?

A.-I have never heard of it.

Q.-Have you any complaint to make against the Surveyor General's Department?

Do they treat you fairly? Do they try to get money out of you?

A.-I have no complaint to make.

Q.-Do they squeeze you?

A.-No; I always carry out my contracts according to the rule.

Q.-Were you going to join in the petition the other day?

A.—I did not know there was any idea of petitioning.

Q.~Hon. A. LISTER.-You never heard of any Overseer having a share in a Con- tractor's business?

A.-That I don't know. I always make roads and bridges.
