concerts, studio recordings by visiting actors and daily announcements of events, availability of tickets etc. The 25th Schools Music and Speech Festival, at the end of the year, attracted entrants from 500 schools. The major events were covered by the Chinese Service and the prizewinners' concerts were recorded by the English Service for later broadcast. Two members of the staff of RHK were invited to serve as adjudicators.
TELEVISION SERVICE
7. During the year under review, the Unit began to flex its muscles. Its youthful and hardworking staff produced programmes of increas- ingly high quality, sometimes working through the night to meet trans- mission deadlines.
8. A 15-minute documentary film publicizing the Community Chest was flown to Japan and shown at a Seminar for International Charity/ Welfare Organizations. The Seminar found the film 'most touching'. American representatives asked for 2 copies for showing in the United States.
9. The following programmes were produced during the year:
'Hong Kong Profile'-a weekly Chinese documentary which started transmission in October 1972. It covers a variety of interests such as Agriculture, Economy, Water Supply, Education for the Deaf, Pollution Problems and the Royal Hong Kong Police Force.
'Spectrum' is the English weekly documentary and has covered subjects such as 'The City Hall', 'The Tsang Tai Uk Village', 'Hong Kong Environment', 'Fire Services' and "The Story of a Deaf Girl'.
The 5-minute 'Viewpoint' both in Chinese and English continues to be a familiar feature of Monday-to-Thursday viewing and its increasing impact is proved by viewing figures (on the Chinese channels) of 1.2 million. The aims of 'Viewpoint' are:
(i) to examine public issues from various angles based on respon-
sible sources of information;
(ii) to reflect responsible public opinion on matters of public interest, at the same time explaining Government's policy on the issue, where such a policy exists, in a balanced statement of views;
