Kong's Ashton FARLEY fulfilled expectations by capturing the coveted award of "Top D.J.' for yet another year.
Talks and Drama
39. The monthly 'drama night' in the FM Service has continued, SHAKESPEARE'S 'King John', RACINE'S 'Phaedra' and IONESCO'S 'L'impromptu de L'Alma' were among the important plays heard in this series. Shorter plays of wider appeal were to be heard regularly on Sunday evenings in the AM Service. The station also lends its support to amateur drama groups by including recorded extracts from their productions in the 'World of Theatre'.
40. A series of six-weekly programmes was devoted to FITZGERALD'S translation of "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam' read by Geoffrey WEEKS, with bass, flute, sitar, tampura and tabla accompaniment arranged by flautist Alex SERRA. The programmes were widely heard and attracted favourable comment.
41. The long running weekly programme 'Bookshop' continued to keep listeners informed of recent publications of all kinds. Reviewers included teachers, journalists and staff members of both universities.
42. The Pearl In Your Hand' continues to offer advice and information to visitors and newcomers with an illustrated diary of events to be seen and enjoyed in the Pearl of the Orient.
Religion
43. In addition to Divine Service, broadcast on Sunday mornings in the FM Service by the various Christian denominations on a roster basis, special dramatized programmes were recorded in the studios of Radio Hong Kong for Lent and Advent.
Presentation and Announcing
44. This section is responsible for covering 184 hours of broadcasting each week, made up of 133 hours per week for the AM and/or FM Service and 51 hours per week for the FM Service alone.
45. The difficulty in obtaining staff was even more noticeable this year, than in the past. Advertisements for Assistant Programme Officers on a Government contract basis, though bringing in about 200 applications, many with university degrees, all failed to pass auditions.
