Constant coverage of his 4-hour stay in the Colony was broadcast and in addition 21 radio and television organizations covering his visit were provided with clean sound.
GOLDEN HILL TRANSMITTING STATION
77. There were a considerable number of lightning storms during the year which were confirmed by the Royal Observatory as much above average. This resulted in some damage on several occasions to the AM Transmitting Station at Golden Hill.

78. The authorized establishment on 31st March, 1971 was 138.
79. The Deputy Director, Mr. I. D. KINGSLEY, went on annual leave to Great Britain in March 1971. During his absence, Mr. T. A. BIRCH, acted as Deputy Director and Mr. G. W. WEEKS as Controller of the English Service. Messrs. C. B. SIMPSON, M. B. M. Harrison and G. W. WEEKS returned from vacation leave in December 1970, January 1971 and February 1971 respectively.
80. Mr. D. E. BROOKS, Director of Broadcasting, and Mr. R. A. WINYARD, Chief Engineer, attended the 8th Commonwealth Broadcasting Conference in June 1970 in Jamaica. Mr. I. D. KINGSLEY, Deputy Director, attended the 7th General Assembly of the Asian Broadcasting Union in September 1970 in Istanbul, Turkey, Messrs. WONG Wah-kay and Simon LUN Siu-ming, Programme Officers, went to Great Britain to undertake the BBC Television Course and attachments in September 1970 and January 1971 respectively. Mr. M. B. M. HARRISON, Programme Officer, attended the BBC Overseas Radio Production Course in Sep- tember 1970 and was assigned to cover the 9th Commonwealth Games in July 1970 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Mr. Wyman CHAN, Programme Supervisor, was assigned to cover the Asian Games in December 1970 in Bangkok, Thailand.
81. Mr. J. B. HAWTHORNE was appointed Controller of Television Section in May 1970 and Mr. CHUNG Wai-ming was appointed Programme Officer in December 1970. Three Assistant Programme
