52. The popular Danny DIAZ trio also broadcast regularly, helped to record jingles for the station, and put on a series of thirteen Folk Scene programmes with audience participation, with the popular radio personality, Sam Hui, as the host of this series.

Talks and Drama

53. A 'drama night' was introduced in the FM service on the first Wednesday in each month; this gave opportunities for the broadcast of full length classics, (sometimes of two hours duration) the scheduling of which would be difficult in the AM service. SHAKESPEARE'S 'King Lear', PINERO's 'The Second Mrs. TANQUERAY' and 'The Electra of Sophocles' were among the presentations. Some difficulty was experi- enced in persuading local actors to make the comparatively lengthy journey to the studios and local productions were few. Notable among them were 'The Governor's Lady' by David MERCER and 'Guardian Angel' by Vaclav HAVEL, a young Czech playwright with a rapidly growing reputation.

Looking at Literature

54. A series written specially for Form V students taking the English Literature paper in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education examinations, was again prepared by Brian BLOMFIELD and Simon ELLIS of The Chinese University and produced by Geoffrey WEEKS. A booklet was issued by the Government Printer to accompany the broadcasts.

The Witching Hour

55. Stories of horror and the supernatural, read by Geoffrey WEEKS and broadcast on Saturdays at midnight proved popular. Rediffusion (Malaysia) asked to use the recordings and these were later broadcast from Kuala Lumpur.

Pearl in your Hand

56. A programme for tourists and new arrivals to the Colony, con- tinued throughout the year. It has become much more than an illustrated daily diary of things to do in Hong Kong. The producer includes information on the Colony, its people, Chinese customs and tradi- tions, background and details on local festivals and their celebration, as well as important information on shopping, dining out, sightseeing,
