STAFF

The authorized establishment on 31st March, 1970 was 120.

The Director, Mr. D. E. BROOKS, went on annual leave to Great Britain in August 1969. During his absence, Mr. I. D. KINGSLEY acted as Director, Mr. T. A. BIRCH as Deputy Director and Mr. T. E. Juson as Controller of the English Service. Mr. T. A. BIRCH, Controller of the English Service, went to New Zealand on annual leave in December 1969 and undertook a refresher course in Public Affairs (Television) at the N.Z.B.C. Mr. J. Halket, Miss W. D. Barnes and Mr. R. W. Rooks returned from vacation leave in November, December 1969 and January 1970 respectively.

Mr. D. E. BROOKS, Director of Broadcasting, and Mr. R. A. WINYARD, Chief Engineer, attended the 6th General Assembly of the Asian Broadcasting Union in October 1969 in Sydney Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand. Mr. CHENG Keng-pin, Programme Supervisor, attended the Workshop/Seminar on Workers' Education by Radio and Television in Asia, organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung from 17th to 30th November, 1969. Messrs. WONG Wah-kay and Frank No Shiu-keen, Programme Officers, went to Great Britain to undertake the BBC Special Overseas Broadcasters Course and attachments and BBC Overseas Radio Production Course in June 1969 and February 1970 respectively. Messrs. Len PORT and WONG Wah-kay, Programme Officers, were assigned to cover the opening ceremony of Expo 70 in Osaka, Japan, in March 1970,

Mr. Pritam SINGH joined Radio Hong Kong as Secretary with effect from November 1969 vice Mr. E. A. FISHER, Mr. Tsor Shiu-hing was appointed Programme Officer (Programme Operations) in December 1969 and Mr. B. E. HAIGH was appointed Programme Officer (Topics) in February 1970. Six Assistant Programme Officers have also been appointed during the 1st quarter of 1970. Mrs. Sally Ho LAM Wing-hang, Record Librarian Class I, retired from the Service in January 1970 after 31 years service. Mr. E. F. BROSNAN, Assistant Programme Officer, resigned from the Service on completion of his 3 years agreement with the Government.

On 31st March, 1970 the staff numbered 108, 45 being members of programme sections, the remainder being engaged in executive, clerical and other duties. There were ten vacant programme staff posts and two vacant hall porter posts.
