Relay Reception

69. The receiving station is part of the Cable & Wireless centre at Mount Butler on Hong Kong Island. During the year a total of 2,406 English and 1,042 Chinese programmes were received from over- seas broadcast stations and rebroadcast locally. Reception conditions were fairly good throughout the year.

Studios

70. Recording of programmes has continued at a high level and all studios in Broadcasting House and Sutherland House have been in constant use. The following table shows the details:

Outside Broadcasts

71. An increase in the number of outside broadcasts carried out was registered this year and the monthly average over the past two years was:

Mobile VHF transmitters were used extensively in outside broadcasts.

Telephone On-The-Air Unit

72. This unit was designed and produced for listeners to telephone Radio Hong Kong for programmes such as 'Late Call' and 'Telephone Quiz'. It changes a telephone from a two-wire into a four-wire system.

Experimental Stereo Broadcasts

73. A stereo broadcast was set up experimentally in June 1969 using the pilot tone system. The transmitting site was in Broadcasting House using two 3-element Yagi aerials directed at Sheung Wan and North Point. They were driven by a 40 watt-VHF power amplifier with 4 wave length matching network. Field strength coverage was good and a minimum of 200 uV/M could be obtained within the built-up areas of Kowloon and Hong Kong.
