39. Both the Chinese and English Services increased broadcasts of the already established discussion programmes 'TALKING POINT' and details can be found of the subjects covered in Appendices 'E' and 'F'.
40. As a direct result of the 1967 disturbances Radio Hong Kong's English Service launched a number of programmes designed to offer the listeners a greater say in programmes reflecting the social and working life of the people of Hong Kong.
41. At the same time the English Service recognized the importance of giving the youth of Hong Kong a greater voice in the development of Hong Kong as a community.
42. To this end programmes such as 'UNIVERSITY REPORT' a magazine reporting on the activities in our two Universities, ‘YOUTH SPEAKS', a frank and outspoken panel discussion in which the youth of Hong Kong were encouraged to air their views on contemporary issues (Appendix ‘G'), 'IS THIS FOR YOU', a series offering advice and information on careers and jobs and ‘LET'S FIND OUT' in which a panel of young people quiz successful people about their personal and professional life were initiated and earned praise from listeners of all ages.
43. Other new programmes in the realm of Public Affairs started in 1967 include ‘SPEAKING OUT' which invited comment and criticism on all matters affecting the public, 'OUT AND ABOUT' (Appendix 'H'), a words and music programme in which a team of interviewers visits a different organization or institution each week and described its work "THIS IS THE LAW' explaining the law to laymen, and 'THE RADIO DOCTOR' which fills a similar role in medicine.
44. 'LATE CALL', an open ended live broadcast in which members of the listening public are invited to telephone the studios and speak on any subject they choose, and ‘AIRMAIL' a listeners' letterbox gave the audience the opportunity to have both their telephone calls and their letters broadcast live for all to hear, and went a long way to reassure. the public of their own place in the scheme of broadcasting.
45. 'WHO CARES' was the title given to a new series of entertaining talks describing the functions of the Urban Services Department.
46. In the Chinese Service the year 1967 also saw the start of many additional Public Affairs programmes. ‘ENQUIRE WITHIN' a listeners answering service, 'FOR THE BLIND' a programme specially designed for blind listeners, and 'JUST IMAGINE', a panel discussion and open forum, for teenagers were all started during this year.
