modulate the FM service on 94 Mc/s for outside broadcast talk-back purposes and used on such occasions as the Macau Grand Prix and events in the New Territories, when VHF links have to be used.

78. A portable control desk equipped with disc playback and other facilities was designed and constructed in the workshops. This unit proved particularly useful on outside broadcast work.

79. One disc/tape playback unit was designed and constructed for use by the Education Department.

80. Layout and acoustical treatment plans of Radio Hong Kong's studio to be situated in a new wing to be built at the Royal Observatory were prepared and forwarded to the Public Works Department.

Outside Broadcasts

81. The number of outside broadcasts undertaken each month remained at the high average of 45. The largest number in a single month took place in March 1966 when 87 were carried out in covering the visit of H.R.H. Princess Margaret and the events of British Week. A total of 40 outside broadcasts took place during the period 1st to 7th March, 1966, utilizing all available staff and equipment.

82. The major single outside broadcast of the year was of the Macau Grand Prix races. VHF link circuits from Macau to Hong Kong were established with a receiving centre at the Peak carrying both services. Four commentary points around the race track were used together with reports by 'walkie-talkie' from timing pits, grand stand, etc. The Macau Grand Prix is broadcast simultaneously in Chinese and English.

STAFF

83. The Assistant Engineer (Planning), Mr. TAM Kai-cheong served a 7-month attachment with the British Broadcasting Corporation during the year under review.

Hung Hom AM and Mount Gough FM Transmitters

84. There was no change in the deployment of transmitters during the period 1.4.65 to 31.3.66.
