99. New Marconi programme input equipment was installed to improve the dynamic range of all the above three Services. A sequential monitor is associated with this equipment to provide automatic moni- toring of each service.
STUDIOS AND EQUIPMENT
100. The two news studios in the Central Government Offices were fully equipped during the year. Remote control gear for these unattended studios was designed and installed in the Central Control Room in. the main studio centre.
101. Electronic reverberation equipment was installed. Echo facili- ties are now available in the Concert Hall and both the English and Chinese Production Studios. The main advantages of this equipment over the more conventional 'echo room' are, firstly, that the equipment does not require a whole room to achieve echo effects and, secondly, the equipment can be easily controlled to simulate echo effects ranging from a small hall up to a large cathedral. With an 'echo room' only the reverberation time of the actual room used can be obtained.
102. Automatic sequential monitoring equipment was designed and installed in the Continuity Control Rooms of both Services. These units allow the control operators to continually monitor the entire broad- casting chain associated with both Services, and any suspected faults can be investigated immediately. The system is proving invaluable, particularly where the unattended VHF transmitters are concerned.
103. The Control Room of one of the recording channels was fitted out, as far as space would allow, as a Production Control Room. This room was previously equipped to carry out recordings of the spoken word only, but increased recording requirements brought about by the extended hours of the English Service have made it necessary to make the maximum use of all facilities and space available.
104. Alarm and over-ride circuits were planned for the FM trans- mitters. The alarm circuits were necessary to detect faults immediately they occur at the unattended FM Station.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
105. An experimental series of Stereo broadcasts has been planned for early next year and should stimulate public interest in this method of broadcasting. Although the Station is not equipped to carry out
