79. Miss Agnes TANG Wai-han was appointed as a Programme Assistant, on transfer from the Labour Department.
80. Mr. TANG Yu-kwan was appointed as an Announcer to replace Mr. IP Chi-hong who retired.
81. Messrs. Wyman CHAN and Geoffrey CHO both attended training course at the B.B.C. during the year.
PART IV
TECHNICAL SERVICES
GENERAL
82. The studio centre is in Mercury House, the Far Eastern Head- quarters of Cable and Wireless Ltd., who are responsible for the department's technical operations. There are nine studios including separate continuity and production suites for the Chinese and English Programme Services, and a Concert Hall which is used jointly by both Services. In addition, two news studios are situated in the new Central Government Offices.
83. The most important technical development of the year was undoubtedly the introduction of VHF/FM transmissions in English and Chinese.
84. The new transmissions, which run, in the main, parallel to the AM transmissions, have not only brought very high quality broadcasting to the Colony but have enabled much of the populace living in places where AM reception is poor, to enjoy good quality listening.
